The late leaders named Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orage, and Samuel Orage are remembered as the “Ogoni Four.”
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during the presentation of the Ogoni Consultation Committee report.
President Tinubu urged the Ogoni people to put aside years of division and embrace peace and unity.
“May their memories continue to inspire unity, courage, and purpose among us. I urge the Ogoni people across classes, communities, and generations to close ranks, put this dark chapter behind us, and move forward as a united community with one voice,” the President said.
He also pledged his administration’s commitment to peace, environmental cleanup, and economic renewal in Ogoniland, assuring the people that the return of oil exploration would come with benefits for their communities.
“I am encouraged by the overwhelming consensus of the Ogoni communities to welcome the resumption of oil production.
“The government will deploy every resource to support your people in this march towards shared prosperity,” Tinubu added.
KanyiDaily recalls that President Bola Tinubu previously awarded national honours to 66 Nigerians for their contributions to the country, especially in connection with the fight for democracy during the June 12 movement.

This is a bold move by President Tinubu, honoring the Ogoni Four posthumously with the CON. It’s a step in the right direction, showing recognition for their courage and sacrifice. However, the real test will be if his words about unity and development translate into tangible actions for the Ogoni people. The promise to resume oil exploration and bring benefits is welcome, but the community has been through enough exploitation. I hope this honour genuinely ushers in a new era of peace and real empowerment, putting aside the past divisions Tinubu himself acknowledged. Let’s see if this is just symbolic or the start of real change for the Ogoni people.
Honouring the Ogoni Four is a nice gesture, though theyre presumably too late to enjoy it! 😅 President Tinubu really wants unity now, telling everyone to close ranks – easy for him to say, hes already united the country in hating him, I guess? 😉 And oil is coming back to Ogoniland? Wonderful! Just hope the benefits arrive faster than the usual government promises. Every resource deployed – thats the line, anyway. As for the previous honours, at least those recipients are still around to collect the dust. Keep the good news coming, KanyiDaily! 🌟
