Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Abdullahi Saliu for allegedly posing as a Nigerian Army colonel to defraud unsuspecting victims of N1.377 million in a fake job recruitment scheme.

The police said Saliu, who was reportedly operating from Top Quality Hotel in Ondo town, promised two women, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, that he could secure jobs for their sons in the Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service.

The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olushola, said investigations revealed that Saliu’s fraudulent activities extended beyond Ondo to Edo, Delta, and Kogi states.

He was said to have a reputation for impersonating senior officers from various security agencies, including the army, navy, customs, and immigration, to defraud job seekers.

Through this fraudulent scheme, he obtained the sum of One Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N1,377,000), which he subsequently converted for his personal use,” the statement reads.

“Investigations further revealed that the suspect’s operations cut across state lines, with victims traced to Edo, Delta, Kogi, and Ondo States.

“He has long been on the Command’s watchlist as a notorious job racketeer, known for impersonating senior officers of different security agencies.”

The police confirmed that Abdullahi Saliu has been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 in Ondo and is now facing prosecution.

The police commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, assured the public that the command remains committed to tackling fraud-related crimes and protecting residents from scammers.

KanyiDaily recalls that police recently arrested a man, Eze Elechi Amadi, for allegedly killing his 18-year-old younger brother, Otu Ifeanyi, during a dispute over N20,000 in Ondo State.
