Police Invites El-Rufai And Other ADC Leaders In Kaduna

Kaduna State Police Command has ordered former governor, Nasir El-Rufai to appear for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, public disturbance, and causing bodily harm.

According to an invitation signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Abdullahi, El-Rufai was summoned along with top officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.

Among those listed were the party’s North-West Chairman, Ja’afaru Sani, Bashir Saidu, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly known as Mikiya 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini.

“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025,” the letter read partly.

Earlier that day, police officers sealed the ADC’s state headquarters on Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna.

The closure came just before a planned visit from the ADC’s North-West leadership, who were expected to sympathize with members injured in an attack by suspected political thugs a week earlier.

Reacting at a press briefing on Thursday, September 4, El-Rufai criticized the police action, describing it as unconstitutional.

He insisted that the scheduled meeting was meant to show support for party members who had been assaulted.

According to him, the police commissioner claimed there was a court order banning the gathering, but failed to present any official document.

El-Rufai stated, “He knows what he’s writing violates the Constitution. We have not seen the court order. It has not been properly served to us. Even if there is a court order, there is a legal process to serve an affected person, and it has not been served on us.”

Despite disputing the commissioner’s explanation, El-Rufai said ADC leaders chose to comply with the police to avoid escalating tensions.

“As responsible leaders, we decided that even though we have not seen the order, we believe the commissioner of police. Because we don’t believe the commissioner of police could be lying,” he stated.

However, El-Rufai warned that the matter would not end there, hinting at a possible legal battle.

“We want to see that order, and, of course, we will challenge whatever grounds to the Supreme Court. This is not the end of it. Other things will follow after this,” he declared.

Last week, a transition committee inauguration descended into chaos when armed thugs disrupted the meeting, injuring several people and damaging property, while the police stood by without intervening.

The ADC has since distanced itself from El-Rufai’s involvement in the disputed transition committee, arguing that the event was not properly authorized and branding it a destabilizing act.

KanyiDily recalls that the Kaduna State Government recently accused Nasir El-Rufai of plotting to undermine peace in the state following the ADC’s poor performance in recent by-elections.
