Asuzu, who was also the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and a respected advocate for Igbo culture, reportedly collapsed and died in the early hours of Wednesday.
In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, the ADC described him as a “man of uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”
Born in Umuma Isiaku, Ideato South LGA, Asuzu combined academic excellence with grassroots involvement.
He studied Theology and Political Science and was pursuing his doctorate before his death.
Beyond his political role, Ugochimereze Asuzu was a theologian, entrepreneur, and cultural activist.
He founded the Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform for cultural revival and intellectual dialogue, and also led “I Stand With ADC”, a citizens’ coalition that encouraged democratic participation.
A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asuzu was well-known as a writer, public commentator, and visiting lecturer.
The party’s statement described him as a devoted husband, caring father, and mentor who touched many lives both within and outside the political space.
“The passing of Chief Asuzu is an irreplaceable loss to his family, the ADC family, and the larger Nigerian society,” the statement said.
ADC added that details of his burial arrangements will be announced later.
KanyiDaily also reported how Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Bayelsa and ex-Minister of Special Duties, slumped and died while playing lawn tennis in Apapa, Lagos.
