Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State and ex-Minister of Special Duties, has died at the age of 70.
The retired naval officer, who also served as Minister of Police Affairs and Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, died suddenly on Sunday while playing lawn tennis in Apapa, Lagos.
According to a statement released by his children, Oluwayemisi Akinadewo and Dayo Olubolade, the 70-year-old had driven himself to a tennis court that evening when he collapsed during a game.
Medical personnel at the scene tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful. He was then rushed to the Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was confirmed dead.
“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing. Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail.
“He was immediately rushed to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa, where he was pronounced dead,” the statement reads.
Caleb Olubolade, who was originally from Ekiti State, celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024.
The family said funeral arrangements will be shared at a later time.
