PDP Suspends Abia And Imo Chairmen For Working With APC

The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the chairmen of its Imo and Abia State chapters over alleged attempt to sabotage the party’s upcoming National Elective Convention.

Those affected are Austine Nwachukwu, chairman of the Imo PDP, and Amah Abraham Nnana, chairman of the Abia PDP.

Their suspension was decided during a meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, presided over by the forum’s acting secretary, Edward Percy Masha.

According to the forum, both chairmen were accused of working with external elements believed to have ties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine preparations for the national convention scheduled for November 15–16.

In a communiqué released after the meeting, the forum described their move to seek a court order stopping the convention as “a betrayal of trust and collective resolve”.

The document was signed by Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of the forum, and Edward Percy Masha, its secretary.

The forum also announced the appointment of Aziegbemi, who chairs the Edo State PDP, as its new national chairman.

During the meeting, members discussed matters affecting party unity, internal stability, and the general state of the opposition in Nigeria. They also reviewed progress made toward organizing a successful convention.

The forum condemned APC’s “undemocratic and desperate efforts” to lure PDP governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders into defecting, describing such actions as a threat to democracy and an attempt to impose a one-party system on the country.

The ruling party’s conduct amounts to an assault on democracy and a dangerous move toward creating a one-party state,” the communique said.

A vote of confidence was passed on the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and all other statutory party organs.

The forum reaffirmed its loyalty to the PDP leadership and restated its commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the party as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also urged party members to remain calm, united, and focused on protecting the PDP’s core values despite what it described as ongoing political distractions.

KanyiDaily recalls that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (lPDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
