The PDP members calling for international support to protect Nigeria’s democracy from sliding toward a one-party system.
The protesters also planned to deliver letters of complaint to the European Union mission and the Ministry of Justice.
They carried placards urging both local and international bodies to step in and help preserve democratic values and the independence of the judiciary in Nigeria.
According to the group, the ruling party has been using intimidation tactics against opposition members, warning that the country is gradually drifting into a one-party state.
The protest comes amid deepening internal conflict in the PDP.
The party has been in crisis for more than two years, and tensions escalated further over the weekend when national chairman Umar Damagum and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and several other senior officials.
In response, Anyanwu led a rival faction of the NWC to announce the suspension of Damagum, National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and four other officials, worsening the already fragile situation.
On Monday, acting national chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, backed by the Anyanwu faction, resumed duties at the PDP national headquarters, while Damagum and his loyal NWC members were notably absent.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Federal High Court in Abuja had stopped the PDP from holding its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, which was scheduled for November 15 and 16.
