According to sources, gunmen attacked Bagudu town on Friday, firing shots as they moved through the area.
The deputy speaker was reportedly taken shortly after leaving the mosque following evening prayers.
Security operatives have since launched a large-scale search and rescue operation to secure his release.
In a statement, the police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the incident occurred on Friday, October 31, 2025, around 8:20 p.m.
He explained that gunmen entered Bagudu town in Bagudo Local Government Area and abducted the lawmaker as he was returning home from Isha prayers.
CSP Abubakar said a combined team of police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has been deployed to track the bandits.
“The combined forces are currently combing suspected bandits’ routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” the statement read.
The police commissioner described the abduction as a “dastardly act” and assured that those responsible would be held accountable.
CSP Abubakar also urged residents to stay calm, remain alert, and share any information that could help the ongoing operation, reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Kebbi State.
