FG Secures Release Of 100 Pupils Abducted In Niger Catholic School

The Federal Government has reportedly secured the release of 100 students who were kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The news was announced by TVC News and Channels Television on Sunday, though no official statement from federal authorities had been released at the time.

The attack happened in the early hours of November 21, when gunmen on motorbikes raided the remote school community around 2 a.m., remaining there for almost three hours.

The gunmen, suspected to be bandits, kidnapped 315 people in total, including 303 students and 12 teachers.

Within the first 24 hours, about 50 pupils managed to escape and were reunited with their families, leaving 265 still held by the kidnappers.

Following the abduction, security forces, including police tactical units and the military, were sent to the area. Operations were launched in nearby forests to track and rescue the remaining victims.

KanyiDaily had also reported how a senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier General M. Uba, was killed bythe Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
