Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke Dumps PDP, Joins Accord Party in Major Political Shake-Up

In a significant realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and announced his move to the Accord Party.

The development, confirmed in a letter dated November 4, 2025, marks a dramatic shift for a governor who rose to national prominence under the PDP banner. In the letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2 in Ede North, Adeleke cited mounting national-level leadership crises as the driving force behind his exit.

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.

Adeleke’s departure comes after months of internal tension within the PDP, with party insiders warning that unresolved disputes could trigger high-profile defections.

Despite the abrupt exit, Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for shaping his political ascent.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator and as Governor of Osun State,” he said.

The governor formally unveiled his new political home, The Accord Party on Tuesday evening, signaling what could be the beginning of a broader realignment ahead of upcoming national elections.

The announcement comes on the same day Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara also defected from the PDP, joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
