The event is being held at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island and is organised by the Lagos State Government.
The Eyo Festival, also called the Adamu Orisha Play, is a traditional Yoruba celebration that is peculiar to Lagos. It is famous for its colourful processions and lively cultural displays.
“Eyo” is also the name given to the white-clad masquerades who perform during the festival. The tradition is rooted in the old cultural and secret society practices of Lagos.
Also expected at the event are Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Kadri Hamzat, residents of the state, visitors from across Nigeria, and Nigerians living abroad.
This year’s celebration will pay tribute to notable figures from Lagos, including President Tinubu’s late mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, as well as former governors Lateef Jakande and Michael Otedola.
