Bandits have attacked Damala village in the Woko district of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, leaving at least four people dead.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 10, barely a week after gunmen killed 42 people in several communities across Borgu and neighbouring Agwara local government areas, including the Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the latest incident on Sunday through a briefing with Channels Television.

In a statement, the police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said the assailants invaded the village, stole an undisclosed number of cattle, and killed four residents.

Abiodun, who is a Superintendent of Police, also said the attackers set several shops on fire before escaping, noting that security agencies responded quickly and have since visited the community.

He added that a clearance operation is ongoing, with surveillance stepped up to stop further attacks and protect residents.

The police assured the public that efforts are underway to track down those responsible and restore calm in the area.

In recent years, bandits have repeatedly targeted communities in the North-Central and North-West regions, carrying out kidnappings for ransom and looting villages.

Niger State remains one of the worst affected, alongside Kaduna, Benue, Plateau, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.

KanyiDaily recalls that over 30 people were recently killed in a violent attack by suspected terrorists at Kasuwan-Daji market in the Demo community, located in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
