The vehicle was said to be on its way toward Iyana Oworo when the fire started around the Adekunle section of the bridge.
Details about possible injuries were not yet known at the time of filing this report.
The incident caused a major traffic slowdown, and firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene to tackle the fire.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the situation in a post on X, saying that work was ongoing to control the blaze.
The agency also noted that its personnel were already at the location helping to control traffic and reduce gridlock.
“A high-capacity bus is on fire on the Third Mainland Bridge, by Adekunle, inwards Iyana Oworo, affecting traffic.
“Efforts are ongoing to put out the fire, and our officers are on scene managing the traffic situation,” the statement read.
