Court Strikes Out FG’s Defamation Suit Against Senator Natasha Akpoti

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has dismissed the defamation case filed by the Federal Government against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udughan, who represents Kogi Central.

Justice Chizoba Orji struck out the case on Thursday after the prosecution asked to withdraw the charges.

The request was made by the government’s lawyer, Aderonke Imana.

Following this, Natasha’s lawyer, West Idahosa, asked the court to formally remove the case from its records.

He also requested that all documents belonging to the senator and her sureties be returned.

The prosecution raised no objection to the defence request.

In her ruling, Justice Orji struck out the suit, discharged the sureties, and ordered that all documents be handed back to them.

KanyiDaily recalls that the FG had filed the case in May 2025, accusing Natasha Akpoti of making defamatory statements during a live television appearance.
