KanyiDaily recalls that the abductions happened on Sunday when gunmen invaded churches in the community and took away more than 100 worshippers.
The Kaduna Police Command denied the reports, describing them as false claims pushed by “conflict entrepreneurs” trying to disturb the peace in the state.
During a press briefing in Kaduna, the state commissioner of police, Muhammad Rabiu, asked those spreading the reports to provide the names and identities of the alleged victims, insisting that the police had no record of such an incident.
The police reaction sparked public backlash with many Nigerians criticising the denial, including Christian Solidarity Worldwide–Nigeria, a human rights organisation.
The group accused security agencies of blocking attempts to independently confirm what happened.
CSW-N said soldiers stopped its team from entering the affected community during a fact-finding visit, even though the team presented valid identification.
On Wednesday, the Adara Development Association, which represents the Adara ethnic group in Kajuru and Kachia LGAs, released a detailed list of those abducted.
The list was signed by the group’s president, Sebastine Barde.
The names show several repeated surnames, suggesting that entire families were taken during the attack.
Among the worst-hit families are the Amos family, with 13 members abducted, the Jonathan family with 12, the Markus family with at least nine members, and the Markudi family with six.
According to the list, the oldest victim is 71-year-old Augustina Matthew, while the youngest is five-year-old Salvation Idris.
The release of the names appears to directly address the police’s earlier demand for details, as calls continue for urgent action to secure the victims’ release.
