The attack, which took place on Saturday, also resulted in the abduction of several residents.
According to Channels TV, the armed attackers stole food items and other goods worth millions of naira before setting the market on fire.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants entered the community on Saturday evening and continued their operation until the early hours of Sunday.
A local resident claimed that around 42 people were tied up and killed, with the attackers facing no resistance.
The gunmen were reported to have come from the National Park in Borgu LGA and carried out the assault in broad daylight.
The Niger State Police confirmed the attack on Sunday.
