It was gathered that the victim, Binuyo Lateefah, is a Mass Communication graduate and her mother’s only child.
She was abducted last Thursday in Kogi State while travelling by bus to her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Taraba State.
According to the family, the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N30 million, which is about $18,000.
They also said Lateefah’s condition has worsened, especially after a 24-hour deadline given by the abductors expired.
Relatives disclosed that they have so far managed to raise about N16 million through a Guaranty Trust Bank account belonging to Quadri Faruq.
As a video of the mother’s public plea circulates online, it has drawn sympathy from many Nigerians, along with renewed outrage over the continued kidnapping of travellers on highways, including young people heading for NYSC service.
KanyiDaily recently reported how suspected bandits attacked the busy highway in Kwara State and abducted at least four travelers.
