The Malian coach has reportedly submitted a proposal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) requesting a new monthly salary of $130,000, which is about ₦174.2 million.
This figure is said to be almost three times what Eric Chelle currently earns.
Chelle signed a two-year contract in January 2025, with an option for an extra year.
He is believed to be on a monthly payment of $50,000 at the moment.
His latest request, which reportedly covers the payment of his coaching crew, is said to be part of a broader 19-point proposal sent to the federation.
When he was appointed, Chelle was tasked with qualifying Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and reaching the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles, however, fell short of those expectations. They were knocked out in the semifinals of the 2025 AFCON and later lost the intercontinental playoff final to DR Congo on penalties.
Even with those results, Eric Chelle has now asked for better terms in his contract. Some observers believe the move could suggest he is considering other offers.
Before taking the Super Eagles job, Chelle reportedly earned around $20,000 per month as Mali’s national team coach.
Since the 2025 AFCON, he has been linked with coaching roles in Tunisia, Angola, and Gabon.
There have also been reports connecting him with a possible vacancy at French club Marseille after Roberto De Zerbi’s exit.
The FCC will now decide whether to agree to his financial demands or prepare for the possibility of appointing a new coach if he chooses to move on.
KanyiDaily recalls that Eric Chelle had suggested he might step down from his role after the 2025 AFCON.
