It was gathered that the quake occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometres below the surface.
Gerash is located along the Zagros fold and thrust belt, a fault line where the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
This region is known for frequent seismic activity and is considered one of the most earthquake-prone areas in the Middle East.
Although quakes of this strength are not unusual there, this latest tremor happened at a tense moment.
Iran is currently facing military strikes from Israel and the United States, which began over the weekend.
The earthquake, which struck on Tuesday, was felt in nearby rural communities, but so far, there have been no reports of deaths or serious damage to buildings.
At the same time, Israel announced it was carrying out coordinated attacks in Tehran and Beirut.
According to Israeli officials, the targets include Iranian military positions and Hezbollah sites in Lebanon.
The Israeli military said it had struck missile launch systems and air defense units that were allegedly used against Israeli aircraft.
It added that operations would continue against missile launchers, firing positions and ballistic weapons.
Earlier, US Central Command said American forces had destroyed facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including command centres, air defence systems, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.
Iran has also launched overnight aerial attacks on US allies in the Gulf.
On Tuesday morning, Iranian drones struck the US embassy in Riyadh, causing minor damage and a small fire. The embassy advised American citizens to stay away from the area.
