In a video shared on his Instagram page, Afolayan explained that the high price of diesel is making it very difficult for businesses like his to operate smoothly.
The producer, who owns the KAP Film Village and Resort, said the facility spends about N11 million on diesel every four to five weeks.
According to him, the price of diesel has reached about N1,500 per litre, which he said is becoming impossible for his business to manage.
Kunle Afolayan noted that even though the facility uses solar power, the company still spends around N11 million regularly on diesel to keep things running.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Film Village, we spend about N11m in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about N11m,” he said.
Afolayan added that the situation has put serious pressure on their finances, adding that they sometimes have to buy diesel on credit because they cannot always pay for it immediately.
“The diesel we have been buying, we have been buying on credit. When we make small money, we find a way to pay,” he said.
“Sometimes it takes two months to even pay down and then get another one on credit. But now from about N1,000 or N995 to N1,500, it’s not sustainable.”
The filmmaker called on the public and potential investors for support, saying, “we really need help to upgrade our solar system. If anyone can come through, I’d truly appreciate it”.

Dear Kunle Afolayan @kunleafolayan, I empathize with you.
Running generators to power a business in Nigeria can be extremely frustrating and expensive.
But let me introduce you to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), an option many smart businesses have already switched to.

Kunke Afolayan’s comments came shortly after veteran actor Pete Edochie also revealed that he spends about N40,000 every day on electricity and fuel, a cost he described as very worrying.
