The request was contained in a letter from the president, which was read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Senate had just resumed from a three-week break taken to review the national budget.
After the letter was presented, the nomination was sent to the Committee of the Whole for further review by lawmakers.
In the same communication, President Tinubu also asked the Senate to confirm Magnus Abe as the Chairman of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), along with two other nominees for commissioner positions.
Another letter from the president requested the Senate’s approval of Mainasara Illo as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre.
Lawmakers referred the nomination to the Senate committees on Narcotics and Drugs as well as Sports for joint screening.
The Senate also received a request to confirm Francis Ifeanyi Asogwa as a commissioner representing the South-East in a federal commission.
His nomination was sent to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters for review.
Additionally, the president asked the Senate to confirm two individuals as commissioners of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The nominees are Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdullahi Murktar from Kaduna State.
All the nominations have now been forwarded to the appropriate Senate committees for screening and further legislative action.
If approved, Oyedele will take over from Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance. Oyedele previously headed President Tinubu’s tax reform committee.
The statement also revealed that Uzoka-Anite will be reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third role within the current administration.
Meanwhile, the Senate also received the proposed 2026 statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the president for review and approval.
