“Blood Of Innocent Nigerians Will Judge Your Administration” – Atiku Tells Tinubu

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has faulted President Bola Tinubu over his comments that the Nigeria’s worsening security situation would not stop his plans to remain in power.

KanyiDaily recalls that Tinubu said on Wednesday that he still intends to run for another term, despite growing concerns about insecurity.

He also warned that those hoping the situation would weaken his chances should reconsider, adding that he would not step aside and would push ahead with his re-election campaign.

Reacting in a statement by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the president’s remarks were worrying.

He argued that leadership should be about taking responsibility and delivering results, not showing defiance.

According to him, the current administration has not met its basic duty of protecting citizens and their property.

“It is not political opponents who will judge this administration; it is the blood of innocent Nigerians being shed daily across our land. That blood cries out louder than any declaration of political resolve,” Atiku said.

He  claimed that since Tinubu took office, more than 10,000 Nigerians have been killed, with some estimates suggesting over 18,000 deaths in two years due to ongoing violence nationwide.

Atiku criticised the government’s attempt to dismiss public anger as mere politics, saying such a stance ignores the pain of grieving families.

He also pointed to the recent attack in Ekiti State, where a pastor was killed and several worshippers were kidnapped, describing the federal government’s response as insufficient.

“It is horrifying that the memories of innocent citizens slain due to the failure of the government to provide adequate security would be so casually reduced to political rhetoric,” he said.

“It is disturbing that such a heinous incident has yet to attract the empathy or acknowledgment it deserves from the highest levels of government, while the loss of lives is instead framed as a political game.”

Atiku further linked the growing insecurity to declining public trust, as well as economic hardship and poor financial decisions by the government.

“No amount of deflection or intimidation can rewrite the lived reality of Nigerians. Ultimately, the people will decide, and they will do so based on the evidence before them,” he added.

“When lives are lost, and communities are destroyed, governance itself is put on trial. No amount of rhetoric can silence the verdict that comes from the suffering of the people.

“At a time like this, Nigerians do not need bravado; they need protection. They do not need declarations of staying power; they need proof of leadership.”

Atiku called on the federal government to rethink its approach to security, insisting that safeguarding lives should remain the most important test of any administration.
