Yusuf Buhari, the only son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has shown interest in contesting for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

This was contained in a letter, dated 3rd April 2026, which he personally signed, titled: “Expression of interest to contest for the seat of House of Representatives Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”
In the letter, Yusuf Buhari announced his plan to run for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency seat in Katsina under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He explained that his decision followed broad consultations, stressing that he wants to offer quality leadership and meaningful representation to the people of the constituency.
“With all respect, I am extremely delighted to write and inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of House of Representatives at the above-mentioned constituency (Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua), under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
“After wide consultations, I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua, as my contribution to ensure a good and qualitative leadership.
“Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human support and development to the people of this constituency.
“While expecting your full support and encouragement, I wish you all the very best in all your undertakings,” the letter reads.
His declaration came just days after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State publicly backed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua federal seat.
The endorsement was reached during a major stakeholders’ meeting held at the local government secretariat.
Speaking at the meeting, council chairman Usman Na-Lado said the decision reflected the shared position of party leaders in the area.
He noted that Yusuf was considered a strong choice because of his perceived ability and the level of acceptance he enjoys among stakeholders.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for Bola Tinubu and Dikko Umar Radda as the party’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship in the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the party also revealed that Yusuf Buhari’s endorsement has the backing of Governor Radda.
