Governor Adeleke’s Ally Shot Dead In Osun Motor Parks Leadership Tussle

Olalekan Oyeyemi, a political ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been shit dead in Ile-Ife.

Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday during a confrontation between rival groups allegedly fighting for control of motor parks in the city.

In a statement, the Osun Police Command said it received a report of an incident around the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife and quickly sent officers to the area.

“The attention of the police was called to an accident which occurred around Energy filling station Ile-Ife, following which operatives were promptly deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene and commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement reads.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Olalekan Oyeyemi aka Emir was shot.

“The command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice.”

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, also confirmed Oyeyemi’s death.

Rasheed said Adeleke had ordered the police commissioner to arrest everyone linked to the killing.

The governor also directed the rival groups involved in the motor park dispute to immediately leave the parks.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the Osun state police commissioner to immediately arrest all those involved in the killing of Mr Ajagungbade Emir,” the statement reads.

“Responding to the killing, which allegedly resulted from a park leadership tussle, the governor further directed the immediate vacation of the motor parks by warring groups and the establishment of a Park Management System with immediate effect.

“While calling for calm among the citizenry, the governor further directed security agencies to restore normalcy across the motor parks and ensure the maintenance of law and order across the state.”

The latest incident comes after the governor suspended all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun in July following violence at some motor parks.

Olalekan Oyeyemi had previously faced legal proceedings over an alleged murder case.

In November 2024, he was remanded at the Ile-Ife Correctional Centre in Osogbo after the police filed an 11-count charge against him.

In January 2026, Oyeyemi denied any involvement in the death of Oyebamiji Kazeem, a NURTW official.
