NRM Announces Actress Esther Okereke As Presidential Candidate For 2027 Election

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has announced Nollywood actress and producer Esther Okereke as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.

Her emergence was confirmed on Friday in Abuja, where she was picked by consensus during the party’s primary.

Speaking at the event, the party’s national chairman, Chinedu Obi, explained that Esther Okereke was the only aspirant who successfully passed the party’s screening and met all set conditions.

He noted that although some contenders did not meet the requirements, their involvement helped deepen internal democracy within the party.

While some aspirants were unable to satisfy the requirements established by our screening process, their participation enriched our democratic culture and strengthened our internal processes,” Obi said.

“I congratulate each of them for their courage, commitment, and belief in the mission of national rescue. Their contributions remain valuable to our collective journey.

“We appreciate the diaspora’s interest in rebuilding Nigeria, and we believe that our partnership and resolve will rebuild and restore the dignity of the once-giant of Africa.”

In her remarks, Okereke outlined her plans if elected president, saying her agenda would focus on rebuilding the nation through key areas such as education, energy, economic renaissance, security, social welfare, sustainable development, technology, transparency, and transformation, housing, healthcare, human capital development, entrepreneurship, enterprise development, and employment creation, restitution, reorientation, and recovery.

The NRM positions itself as a generational vanguard. By mobilising the youths, championing ethical leadership, and advocating for structural re-engineering, the movement seeks to transition Nigeria from a state of survival to one of sustainable development,” she said.

Okereke stressed that meaningful national progress would require a shift in leadership that reflects both generational change and gender balance, alongside a system built on fairness, accountability, and sustainable development.
