Roy De Nani Speaks On 13-Year Nollywood Ban, Loss Of Two Children To Sickle Cell

Speaking during a recent interview on the ‘Where Is The Lie’ podcast, the actor said he was allegedly banned from getting movie roles for 13 years after a powerful figure in the industry instructed producers not to work with him.

Roy De Nani explained that the situation started shortly after he had spent about 11 months away from acting and eventually stretched into more than a decade.

The movie star recalled occasions when movie productions were stopped because producers were told to remove him from the cast.

“That was how it started from 11 months to 13 years… A man gave an order that nobody should give Roy De Nani a job again. For years, even when I was already recording, a producer would come in and say, ‘No, cancel it. Stop,’” he said.

The actor also opened up about losing his brother, revealing that none of his colleagues from the movie industry attended the burial, stressing that the lack of support during difficult moments in his life was deeply painful.

“I have a brother from the same father. When he died, not a single actor or actress showed up,” he said.

De Nani further recounted losing both his son and daughter, who were living with sickle cell disorder. He said they died because he could not afford the blood transfusions needed to keep them alive.

The actor explained that he did not receive assistance from Nollywood at the time, although he believes many people may not have known about his situation.

“I lost my son and my daughter because they needed blood transfusions to keep living, but there was no money to buy the blood, and they died.

“Nollywood never came to help me. Not that they don’t care, but they haven’t been touched by it. Let it be said that way,” he said.

Roy De Nani has spent many years in the Nigerian movie industry and is known for starring in movies like Atinga, Midnight Love, The Last Burial, Onye-Eze, The Catechist, and Axe of Vengeance.
