Speaking after the prayers, the president urged citizens to reflect on the meaning of the celebration by showing love and kindness to one another.
He was accompanied by several top officials, including the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Hamzat; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa; the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu; and a former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, among others.
Tinubu stressed that the message of Eid encourages people to care for each other and reject division.
He said Nigerians should avoid discrimination based on tribe or background and instead promote peace and generosity.
“Well, we thank God Almighty Allah for providing for us and keeping us to see another Eid. We thank Him for His mercy, and we must learn from the lessons of this season, and it is showing love to one another.
“There should be no discrimination, ethnicity, or hatred. We should share love and be generous to one another in a way that reflects the values of our country and our humanity. It is essential that we are tolerant, obedient to the will of Allah, and obedient to the rule of law, which must guide our society.”
“On the issue of insecurity, nowhere in the teachings does it say you should engage in banditry or kill another human being,” the president told reporters.
