The party’s primary, held on Saturday, saw former governor Mohammed Abubakar emerge as the winner, beating Tuggar and five other contenders.

John Abang, who chaired the APC governorship and house of assembly primary committee in the state, announced that Abubakar polled 57,517 votes to win the ticket.

Tuggar came in second with 26,001 votes. Nura Manu Soro got 13,638 votes, while Bala Wunti had 13,648. Kabir Ma’aji trailed with 8,157 votes.

Abang explained that the figures were the final results gathered from across the state and confirmed Abubakar as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship race.

KanyiDaily recalls that on March 30, Yusuf Tuggar stepped down from his ministerial role in line with a directive from President Bola Tinubu, which required all appointees planning to run for office in 2027 to resign.
