“Don’t Leave APC, Oyo Guber Primary Still Undecided” – Adelabu Tells Supporters

Adebayo Adelabu, a former minister of power and governorship hopeful under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has called on party members to stay calm as uncertainty surrounds the outcome of the party’s primary election.

In a statement on Monday, Adelabu made it clear that no one at the state level has been authorised to announce the results.

He stressed that only the party’s national leadership in Abuja has the power to declare the final outcome.

He urged members to ignore any results or candidate lists being shared on social media or through unofficial channels, saying such information should not be trusted until the party releases an official statement.

“However, it is important to remind ourselves that the National Headquarters of our party has expressly directed that no individual, group or committee at the state level is authorised to announce the final outcome of the primaries,” he said.

“Consequently, any purported list of candidates being circulated on social media or through unofficial channels should be treated with utmost caution until the National Leadership of the party makes its official pronouncement.”

Adelabu urged supporters to remain patient and avoid being influenced by rumours, propaganda, or early victory claims, which he said could create confusion and disrupt ongoing discussions within the party.

“At this crucial stage, no one should allow himself or herself to be misled by rumours, propaganda or premature victory claims designed to manipulate public perception, create confusion among party faithful and influence ongoing consultations within the party,” he said.

He also reacted to reports that some members were leaving the APC over alleged consensus arrangements, describing such moves as wrong and harmful to the party’s unity.

“I am particularly concerned by reports that some of our members, feeling aggrieved by the rumours surrounding the purported consensus arrangements, have begun defecting to opposition parties in protest.

“Let me state unequivocally that I condemn these defections in their entirety,” he said.

According to him, walking away based on unverified claims would only weaken the party and give an advantage to its rivals.

“Every committed member of APC has invested time, resources, energy and sacrifices into the growth of this party,” he said.

“It would be unfortunate to abandon that investment based on speculations and unofficial information.”

He reminded members of past elections, noting that internal conflicts and defections had previously affected the party’s chances at the polls.

Adelabu expressed confidence that the APC’s national leadership would handle any issues arising from the primaries fairly and ensure unity within the party.

“I have absolute confidence that the National Leadership of our party possesses the wisdom, experience and institutional capacity to address all concerns arising from the primary process,” he said.

“I am equally confident that appropriate interventions will be made where necessary to ensure justice, fairness and party cohesion.”

Adelabu further appealed to party leaders, youth groups, women, supporters, and fellow aspirants to remain calm and avoid actions that could deepen divisions.

He also warned against spreading false claims about endorsements or agreements that have not been officially confirmed.

“The strength of our party lies in transparency, credibility and respect for due process,” he said.

“No individual or group should engage in activities capable of misleading our members or creating false impressions regarding decisions that have not been officially communicated by the National Headquarters.”

He encouraged members across Oyo to remain united, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed through proper channels and that the party would emerge stronger ahead of future elections.

“Elections come and go, but the party remains our common platform for service, development and progressive governance.

“Together, we shall overcome our current challenges, emerge stronger and position our great party for victory in the elections ahead,” he said.
