Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called on Nigeria’s security chiefs to defeat terrorists within three months or leave their positions.

"Eliminate Terrorists Within 90 Days Or Resign" - Pastor Adeboye Tells Service Chiefs

Speaking in a video shared on the church’s X account on Tuesday, Adeboye urged the federal government to take urgent action to tackle the country’s worsening security situation.

If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,” he said.

Adeboye explained that religious leaders can only offer guidance, while the authority to make and enforce decisions lies with the president as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

The RCCG leader recalled giving similar advice to former President Muhammadu Buhari during his administration.

He said Buhari responded by directing security chiefs to address the Boko Haram insurgency within a set period.

In 2021, Buhari also instructed military leaders to intensify efforts against bandits, kidnappers, and those supporting criminal activities across the country.

The former president stressed the need for security agencies to take proactive measures rather than reacting after attacks occur.

However, Adeboye said the directive was not fully implemented within the timeframe and that no major action was taken when the deadline passed.

He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through. Because he gave the order as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The three months went, and the work was not done,” he said.

He revealed that he later asked Buhari why stronger steps were not taken after the target date expired, although he chose not to disclose details of their discussion.

Adeboye further urged the current administration to ensure that security operations focus not only on terrorists but also on individuals and groups that provide them with funding and support, regardless of their social or political influence.

When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists, they should eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” Adeboye added.

His remarks come at a time when concerns over insecurity remain high, with several parts of the country experiencing kidnappings, attacks on communities, and the abduction of students in recent months.
