Hollywood actor Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles III, recognising his many years of charity work focused on young people.

Although Idris Elba’s name appeared on the King’s New Year Honours list back in December 2025, the official ceremony took place on Tuesday at Windsor Castle.

Following the investiture, the entertainer will now be addressed as Sir Idris.

The honours list is released every year to celebrate individuals who have made notable contributions in different fields, both within the United Kingdom and internationally.

This year’s awards covered areas such as sports, education, humanitarian efforts, the arts, and the justice sector.

In a post shared on Instagram, the royal family congratulated all recipients.

Elba also joined in the moment online, posting a playful video where he held up an Arsenal jersey printed with the words “Sir Elba.”

Congratulations to everyone who received honours at today’s Investiture ceremonies, hosted by The King at Windsor Castle,” the post reads.

“Amongst recipients were… Sir @IdrisElba for services to young people. @Torvilland Deanofficial for services to ice skating and voluntary service.

“Dame @meera.syal for services to literature, drama and charity. A Betty Brown OBE for services to justice. @OfficialPaulChuckle BE for charitable service.”

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who became Olympic champions after winning gold at the 1984 Winter Games with their famous Bolero routine, were among the notable honourees this year.

KanyiDaily recalls that Idris Elba recently opened up about racism in the movie industry, revealing why he no longer describes himself as a Black actor.
