19-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Allegedly Attempting To Kill Her Husband In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman for allegedly trying to kill her husband by putting poison in his food in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafi’u Habib, announced the arrest on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

According to the police, the woman had been married for about 40 days when she allegedly put a poisonous substance in her husband’s meal on August 12, 2026, at around 3:15 p.m.

The police said a woman from the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi later alerted them about the incident at about 7:40 p.m.

Following the report, officers from the ‘C’ Division in Tafawa Balewa Estate were sent to the location.

The husband was taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment.

Police said the man was receiving medical attention and was in stable condition.

The suspect was arrested and questioned by the police, and she allegedly confessed to poisoning her husband.

Police also recovered an empty bottle believed to have contained the poisonous substance, along with some of the food suspected to have been poisoned. The items were kept as evidence.

Commissioner Aliyu has ordered that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed investigation.

The suspect is expected to be taken to court after the investigation is completed.

The police command said it would continue working to protect residents and maintain peace across Bauchi State.

It also urged members of the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
