Akpabio, Dangote Called Me To Delete My Tweets During Osun Election — Davido

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that some of Nigeria’s influential political and business figures contacted him and asked him to delete his social media posts about the Osun State governorship election.

Davido, who openly supported his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the election, said Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote were among those who reached out to him.

During the election, the singer had accused Akpabio of attempting to influence the collation of results.

He alleged that Akpabio had allegedly contacted the collation centre and asked officials to halt the process.

Sen. President Akpabio has called the collation center that they should stop collation!!!!” Davido had alleged on Twitter.

Speaking about the Osun election on News Central, Davido said securing a second term for his uncle was far from easy.

He said his concerns grew when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appeared to stop uploading results for several hours during the collation process.

According to him, results from about 3,700 polling units had been uploaded regularly before the process suddenly stopped after results from around 3,200 units had been received.

He said the delay lasted about five hours and raised concerns because Governor Adeleke was reportedly ahead by more than 60,000 votes at the time.

“When the election started, the results were being offloaded every thirty minutes in about 3,700 polling units. But when it got to 3,200, for about five hours, it stopped.

“I already knew what was going on, that they are trying to see how to manipulate, and that is different when you are losing with over 60,000 votes,” he said.

Davido also claimed that some influential Nigerians contacted him during the period, including Akpabio, whom he referred to as his godfather.

I heard the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who is like my godfather, was trying to call the collation centre, and they were also calling me,” he said.

The singer said he was asked to delete one of his posts about the situation but refused.

Davido added that Dangote also called him and requested that he take down the post.

He, however, told the businessman that he would not remove anything until INEC declared the election results.

I said you guys have literally just gone against my uncle. They asked me to delete the tweet. Also, Uncle Aliko called me and I said I can’t delete anything until INEC announced the results,” Davido said.

He further claimed that tensions during the election became so intense that some residents confronted people allegedly attempting to disrupt voting and snatch ballot boxes.

“It got to a point that it was the Osun people that were beating the people that came to snatch the ballot box because people are tired,” the singer said.

Davido said the reaction showed that many residents were determined to protect their votes, regardless of their political affiliations.

He described Governor Adeleke’s victory as proof that strong public support could overcome money and political influence.

The singer said his uncle’s victory should serve as an example to other governors and elected officials.

My uncle should be an example to all other government officials and governors that when you stand by the people, they will also stand by you,” he said.

The INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.

Davido’s political involvement in Osun is closely linked to his family’s history in the state. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the first civilian governor of Osun State, serving in 1992. His other uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the current governor of the state.

Meanwhile, Davido said he plans to stay away from Nigerian politics after Ademola Adeleke won re-election as Osun State Governor.
