Liverpool Agree Loan Deal For Barcelona Defender Ronald Araujo

Liverpool have reached an agreement to bring Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo to Anfield on a season-long loan deal.

The agreement also gives Liverpool the chance to make the move permanent by activating a buy option.

It was gathered that Ronald Araujo is expected to join up with his new teammates this weekend.

The 27-year-old Uruguay international has played a key role in Barcelona’s recent success, helping the club win three La Liga titles in the last four seasons. He also finished the previous campaign as Barcelona’s captain.

Despite having a contract with the Spanish club until 2031, Araujo started just 11 league matches last season.

The rise of Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi saw the pair become Barcelona’s preferred central defensive partnership.

Araujo moved to Barcelona from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2018 and has since made more than 200 appearances for the Catalan club.

Liverpool turned to the experienced defender as they look to strengthen their backline following Ibrahima Konate’s departure to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
