Nigerian hurdler and world record holder Tobi Amusan has bounced back in style by winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Diamond League event in Rabat, Morocco.

The 28-year-old Nigerian star clocked a season-best time of 12.24 seconds, setting a new meet record and breaking the previous one of 12.51 seconds held by Brianna McNeal.
This marks Amusan’s first major win of the 2025 season. She had a slow start earlier in the year, finishing fourth in both the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League races in May.
In March, she claimed a win at the Velocity Fest 16 in Jamaica, although the competition wasn’t as strong.
This latest win is a much-needed boost for Amusan after a tough 2024 season, where she failed to reach the finals in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.
Following that disappointment, she made a key change by joining Racers Track Club, coached by Glen Mills—the same man who once coached sprinting legend Usain Bolt.
Reflecting on her performance in Rabat, Tobi Amusan credited a renewed focus on hurdle training for her improved results.
“More hurdles practice, because I have been doing more sprinting. It was after the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” she said.
Amusan has previously dominated this event, winning the Diamond League women’s 100m hurdles title three times between 2021 and 2023.
KanyiDaily recalls that Tobi Amusan did not advance to the final of the Women’s 100m hurdles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
