Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the crescent moon has been sighted, signaling the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

In an update shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by Haramain Sharifain on Tuesday, it was announced that Dhul Hijjah 1446 will officially start on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The announcement also listed important dates for the upcoming religious events:
- Dhul Hijjah begins on Wednesday, May 28, 2025
- The Day of Arafah will be observed on Thursday, June 5, 2025
- Eid al-Adha will follow on Friday, June 6, 2025
The Day of Arafah, which falls on June 5, is one of the most sacred days in Islam. It is the highlight of the Hajj pilgrimage, when worshippers gather at Mount Arafat for prayer and reflection.
The next day, Muslims around the world will celebrate Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.
The holiday honors Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) deep faith and readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
Haramain Sharifain also shared a well-known prayer recited by pilgrims entering the sacred state of ihram:
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
(“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You, and You have no partner.”)
For comparison, last year’s Eid al-Adha was observed on June 16, 2024.
This announcement helps Muslims around the world plan for the significant days ahead, including the Hajj pilgrimage, Eid prayers, charitable acts, and the traditional animal sacrifice that symbolizes devotion and obedience to God.
KanyiDaily recalls that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a well-known Islamic scholar from Nigeria, has been stopped from entering Saudi Arabia to take part in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
