NFF Sets Up Committee To Probe Super Falcons’ Failure To Qualify For World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate Nigeria’s recent disappointing results in international football, with the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup a major focus.

The decision comes after Nigeria’s underwhelming run at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Super Falcons entered the tournament as 10-time champions and defending title holders but were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Their World Cup hopes suffered another major blow when they lost 2-1 to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

As a result, Nigeria will not feature at the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

It will be the first time the Super Falcons have failed to qualify for the tournament since its first edition in 1991.

The NFF announced the formation of the committee on its X page, saying it would investigate the problems affecting the country’s national teams and suggest solutions.

The federation said the panel would look into the recent setbacks, identify the factors behind the poor results and make recommendations aimed at improving Nigeria’s performance in future competitions.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, has been appointed chairman of the committee.

Other members include former Super Eagles coach Ladan Bosso, former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie, ex-Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju and Dr Alex Mana.

The committee will investigate the circumstances that led to the Super Falcons missing out on the 2027 World Cup and also consider wider issues affecting Nigeria’s national teams.

The NFF expects the panel’s findings to help identify the weaknesses within the national teams and provide practical steps to improve Nigeria’s performance and competitiveness in international football.
