Fire Razes Ibadan’s Fresh FM Radio Station Owned By Yinka Ayefele

Fire has destroyed the Ibadan head office of Fresh FM, the popular radio station owned by veteran gospel singer Yinka Ayefele.

The Music House complex, which also accommodates Ayefele’s Merry Makers Band, Tiwantiwa Radio, and Blast FM, was hit by the blaze.

The fire, which started around 7:30 p.m on Friday evening, disrupted live broadcasts and destroyed several key facilities, sending staff and residents in the area into panic.

Videos shared online showed people around the building struggling in confusion as the flames spread.

One of the station’s staff members, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @Arugboboisi, confirmed the outbreak and urgently appealed for help.

“Fresh FM is currently on fire! We urgently need the Fire Service to respond immediately. Please retweet, spread the word and alert the nearest station,” he posted.

Samson Akindele, spokesperson for Fresh FM Nigeria also, released a statement confirming that the station’s headquarters, known as Music House in the Challenge area of Ibadan, was badly damaged.

“We are sad to inform the general public that the Head Office of Fresh FM Nigeria, Challenge – Ibadan, was razed by a devastating fire incident this evening, August 15, 2025,” Akindele said.

Samson Akindele said Fresh 105.9 FM and Blast 98.3 FM studios were among the worst affected. Offices such as the newsroom, server room, and other sections were also reduced to ruins.

“In the ensuing mishap, the studios of Fresh 105.9 and Blast 98.3 were badly burnt, with proximal offices like the newsroom, the transmitter/server room, and several equipment that got razed during active operations,” Akindele said.

He He lamented that “efforts to fight the fire, before the arrival of the professional fire fighters, with our in-house fire extinguishers proved abortive because of the strength of the inferno.

“We can’t immediately quantify the extent of the damage caused by the devastating inferno, the cause of which is also yet to be ascertained presently.”

Akindele thanked members of the public who rushed to help before firefighters arrived, as well as the Oyo State Fire Service for their intervention in containing the disaster.
