Six Interesting Nollywood Clichés; True or False

Six Interesting Nollywood Clichés; True or False 1
1) Grammatical errors in the Subtitles: This one particular with Yoruba movies. I’m yet to come across a Yoruba movie that has no hilarious grammatical blunder in its subtitles, which is more of a struggle to translate Yoruba to English. Nobody’s perfect though but Haba! it shouldn’t be that bad.

2) Fully-Clothed S*x: I don’t know if most of the Nollywood fans or viewers notice this. Nobody is telling you to go nude like Hollywood or become unnecessarily sensual like Gollywood, but common! The people watching are not fools. Just showing lovers walking into a room, shutting the door behind your viewers (you can add some screams if you like) and walking out of the room at some latter time in the movie is better than showing fully-clothed people grinding fabric against fabric. It’s more awkward when a lady who just engaged in coitus, steps out of bed fully-clothed. One can hide nudity without missing the details.
3) Unintelligent Gatekeepers: If one had not actually met reasonable gatekeepers in real-life, one might just come to the conclusion that all gatekeepers are dumb, as Nollywood usually portrays them.
4) Awkward Expressions: Some might not agree with this but Nigerian actors (or maybe it’s the fault of the directors) still find it difficult to rightfully show forth the facial (or bodily) expressions for the emotions they’re trying to portray. Think deeper about this and observe better for every Nigerian movie you watch henceforth, in case you don’t believe, as I don’t have the time to convince you.
5) Flashbacks: Just like (1) above, this is also common with Yoruba movies. It usually happens towards the end of the plays when someone is confessing or reflecting on past events in the cubicle of a witch doctor.
6) Predictable Endings: This is basically the cliché of all clichés. I really don’t have to say much about this because you and I know that one can walk out, at the middle of most Nigerian movies and still come back to project the rest of the story to the very end.
