Ministerial Screening: Senate Asks Akume, Akpabio, Nwajiuba To ‘Take A Bow And Go’

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, July 24, began the screening of ministerial nominees asking three of them to simply ‘take a bow and go’ since they were former lawmakers.

Those asked to ‘take a bow and go’ included Godswill Akpabio, a former minority leader of the senate and ex-governor of Akwa Ibom.

Senator George Akume, who has served in the upper legislative chamber, and was governor of Benue state, also benefited from the gesture.

The Senate also asked Emeka Nwajuiba, a serving member of the House of Representatives, who sought to be speaker of the ninth Assembly, was also asked to bow and go after an introduction and a little address.

However, Uche Ogah, one of the nominees, faced a tough question and answer session during his screening by the senators.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan had said in the course of the screening exercise that the Senate will sustain its standing tradition of asking former Senators and House members who are ministerial nominees to take a bow and leave the chambers without entertaining any question.
