The Federal Government have been accused of using the Nigerian army to force residents out of their homes at popular Tarkwa Bay in Lagos State.
The residents allege that the government did not make any arrangement for them to resettle elsewhere, as their houses are being demolished.
Soldiers are reportedly shooting sporadically to threaten anybody who refuses to leave, and whoever tries to take pictures or videos are being dealt with.
The residents of Tarkwa Bay Island are being forced by the men of the Nigerian Army to evacuate the island as we speak.
No prior notice, nothing!!!
Where do they want them to go to? This is so sad ?? pic.twitter.com/mUPM1uS1zE

the tarkwa bay you know might be no more in few moments, maybe hours or days. there are soldiers everywhere, and they're firing in the air asking everyone to leave. if you know someone that knows someone check up on them to come and move their things..

How can you wake up and make hundreds of people homeless when the government should be fighting homelessness in the country. Let’s see how the number of crime rate will skyrocket on the island. They will erect buildings there for the rich so d poor can go and die right? Tarkwa bay

Tonight, several children will be sleeping under the CMS bridge. The government, through soldiers has chased people from their homes – the people in Tarkwa Bay like the several other sacked waterfront communities in Lagos have held their land and homes for generations.

The residents of Tarkwa Bay who have lived in their ancestral lands for years will tonight sleep in the open because they’ve been forcefully evicted by a Govt supposed to serve & protect them. Where is this country heading to?

Still Happening: People are still parking their loads at Tarkwa bay some are at CMS underbridge now confused and wondering where they will go, a lady complained 90% of her loads were stolen before she could get to her house, saying there were several sprays of bullet on air.. pic.twitter.com/sn9faMGGau

Let's not forget the people in Tarkwa bay voted during elections. They are not from another state or country they are from Nigeria and the Government is treating them this way. Let me tell you, the Nigeria Government is wicked and barbaric. No consideration for the people at all

I’m really sad for this country. How can you evict a whole community without putting them somewhere else. Tarkwa Bay has been home to thousands for years. Please do something @lasglandsbureau @jidesanwoolu
