Presidency Reacts To Planned Visa Restrictions On Nigerians By US President, Donald Trump

The Presidency has reacted to the planned imposition of visa restrictions on Nigeria and six other countries by United State’s government led by President Donald Trump.

KanyiDaily had reported that President Trump is planning to add seven countries to its travel ban list in order to restricts the flow of immigrants and visitors into the US.

The affected countries included Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Eritrea from Africa while Kyrgyzstan and Belarus from Eastern Europe and Myanmar from Asia.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, a presidential spokesman, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, described the report as mere speculation.

”We have read the news that the Trump administration is planning to add a host of African, Asian and Eastern European countries to its travel restrictions list as reported by the US media,” Shehu said.

”We are not going to react to speculations. We urge you to wait for us to see what unfolds under the new policy, its scope, its reach, the implications, and its consequences before we react.”

KanyiDaily recalls that a US Congressman, Christopher Smith had called on President Trump to sanction any Nigerian authority or official who manipulates elections.

He said: I urge the Trump Administration to monitor the evolving situation closely, and not to hesitate to use its sanctioning authority to hold accountable any officials who subvert the electoral process or foment violence against citizens.”
