Protesting staffs of the Lagos State University (LASU) have prevented Olanrewaju Fagboun, the institution’s vice-chancellor, and students from entering the school premises.
The unions involved in the protest are the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
LASU Management addressed the students behind the gate this morning, September 14, 2020, saying that they should return home and come back next week Monday, September 21, when the university will fully be opened.
KanyiDaily recalls that the Lagos State Government had directed that academic activities for final year students resume on Monday, including LASU.
But ASUU had insisted that the Federal Government must honour the agreement it had with the union before making any announcement on the reopening of the universities after the COVID-19 pandemic.
