President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday received the first ever made in Nigeria cell phone, known as ITF Mobile.

The Minister of Industry, trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, presented the phone to the president, before the commencement of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

Adebayo said the phone is one of the 12 cell phones produced, using locally sourced components, by the Electrical/Electronics Technology Department of the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Model Skills Training Centre.

“Twelve indigenous mobile cell phones produced by the Model Skills Training Centre of the Industrial Training Fund; an agency under Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment was launched.

“It gives me great pleasure Mr President, to present you with one of the phones,” Adebayo said.

Also present at the FEC meeting was Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, NSA Babagana Monguno, AGF Abubakar Malami, Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed and SGF Boss Mustapha.

This is coming days after the Federal Government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.

The Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad has urged Nigerians to join him on an Indian-owned social media platform, Koo App, following the Twitter ban in Nigeria.
