Businesses Shutdown In Ebonyi As Residents Obey IPOB Sit-At-Home Order [Photos]

Schools, Shops, banks, and other businesses in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, were shut down on Monday in compliance with the sit-at-home order given by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

KanyiDaily recalls that IPOB had issued a sit-at-home order in the South-East every Monday as part of its ways of protesting the detention of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, by the federal government.

The proscribed group said that the lockdown tagged ‘Ghost Monday’ will also affect all schools, marketplaces, and other economic activities in the region.

Abakaliki Residents Obey IPOB Sit-At-Home Order

The Nations reports that residents of Abakaliki complied with the IPOB sit-at-home order this morning, but some cars, commercial tricycles and motorcycles were seen operating in major streets and roads in the city at the time of filing this report.

Banks remained closed but their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) were functional and dispensing cash to customers. Some had their gates opened but did not have customers to attend to.

Some security agents were seen in their vans on patrol of major streets while residents were seen in clusters discussing the situation.

Almost many schools were shut, students writing the National Examination Council (NECO) exams were seen going to their institutions in the morning.

Workers of some businesses, who reported to work, found their offices under lock and key.

Parks of major transport companies also did not load as at the time of this report.

KanyiDaily recalls that IPOB had earlier warned that anyone in the South-East who disobeys the sit-at-home order slated for Monday will regret their life.
