Police Vows To Clampdown On IPOB Over Planned Sit-At-Home On Monday

IPOB had vowed to lock down the South-East every Monday due to the continued detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Abia State Police Command has vowed to clamp down on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over its plan to commence sit-at-home in the entire Southeast region every Monday.

KanyiDaily recalls that IPOB had ordered “every Monday sit-at-home protest” beginning from Monday, August 9, in order to force the Federal Government to release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Reacting to the development on Friday, Abia Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Janet Agbed vowed that operatives of the command would clampdown on any group of hoodlums who attempt to disrupt the peace in the state.

She assured the residents of the state that her office, in collaboration with other security agencies, were working hard to ensure that they went about their business without fear of harassment or intimidation.

“There are rumours circulating in the state that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra have resolved to commence a sit-at-home every Monday with effect from Monday, August 9, 2021.

“The story has it that they have arranged to use their militant arm, the Eastern Security Network, to force compliance. We’re aware that the majority of the citizens depend on daily income for their survival.

“The sit-at-home will negatively impact the economy of the state and individual pockets”, she said while addressing newsmen.

KanyiDaily recalls that the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu had also asked IPOB to reconsider the sit-at-home which he described as a punishment and war against Ndigbo.
