Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained four officers who were seen in a viral video extorting money from a yet-to-be-identified resident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the immediate arrest of the erring police officers in a statement titled, “Viral video: Lagos CP condemns extortion, orders arrest of officers”.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who issued the statement on Friday, said the arrested officers were facing disciplinary actions.
“Attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video going viral on social media exposing some Police officers in Maroko police Division extorting money from a citizen.
“Peeved by the unprofessional conduct of the officers as captured/revealed in the video, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, directed that the erring police officers should be identified and arrested immediately.
“In compliance with the directive, therefore, all the four police officers have been arrested and detained. They are cuŕenrly facing disciplinary actions.
“While condemning this inglorious act, the Commissioner of Police vows to deal decisively with any police officer found acting in such or another unprofessional manner in the Command,” the statement partly reads.
