ASUU Considers To Suspend Strike Following Religious Body’s Appeal

ASUU is considering to suspend its strike following an appeal from a religious body

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed on 14th May, that the union would consider the appeal made by a religious body to suspend its strike and make its decision known in no time.

Mr Osodeke stated that the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC ) appealed to the striking unions on Thursday, 12th May. According to him, appeals like such aren’t new to the union.

“It is an appeal and our members would consider it. It is not a request but an appeal and appeals are usually for consideration,” he said.

Osodeke also made it clear that the union is yet to decide whether to suspend its industrial action. “When the decision is taken, everyone would know,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, angry Muslims burnt down three churches in Sokoto during a violent protest for the immediate release of suspects arrested in connection with Deborah Samuel’s death.
