2023: I Turned To God In Prayers When I Knew APC Ganged-Up Against Me – Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has revealed that he resorted to prayers when he knew there was a gang-up against his presidential bid.

Tinubu Recounts His Struggle To Win APC Ticket

KanyiDaily recalls that before the APC presidential primary, there were speculations that President Muhammadu Buhari was trying to impose a candidate and subsequently see to the fact that the person becomes his successor.

The rumours escalated when Tinubu boasted that he brought Buhari out of political retirement and made him President with the agreement of handing over to him.

The former Lagos governor finally defeated Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation; Senate President Ahmad Lawan and 10 other hopefuls to clinch the APC presidential ticket.

Speaking on Sunday when he visited the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, the presidential candidate said he poured out his heart when he felt people conspired against him in the race to secure the ruling party’s ticket.

Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary (CPS) to the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, quoted Tinubu as saying said he was almost fed up at a point in time.

Tinubu said, “There is no Lagos indigene that has had the opportunity to become President of Nigeria, despite the contribution of the state to the national stability and progress.

“The highest position attained by any Lagosian in national leadership is the position of chief judge of the federation. I took up the fight to break this jinx.

“The battle to secure the APC ticket was hard. When I was almost fed up, I resorted to prayers. I also poured out my mind when I felt there was a gang-up against my person. Thank God that I have brought home the presidential ticket.”

“The task ahead is to galvanise our people to get their voter cards and vote to enable us realise this ambition. Getting our people to vote is the most important task before all of us.

“We need to take this message to our people across communities and sensitise them on the need to vote in the general elections,” he added.

On his part, the Oba prayed that Tinubu realises his quest to be president of Nigeria.

Akiolu said, “Your emergence as the presidential candidate of your party is the beginning of another journey in your political career. All Yoruba ancestors shall be with you on this journey to make our fatherland a better place.”

KanyiDaily had reported that while Bola Tinubu was heading to his Bourdillon Avenue, Ikoyi residence from the palace, some hoodlums wielding swords and cutlasses, threw stones at the bus conveying the press crew and security team on his convoy.
