ASUU Strike: We Must Stop Playing With The Future Of Our Youths – Orji Kalu Tells FG

Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu has called on the Federal Government to take all necessary measures to end the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Orji Uzor Kalu Calls Out FG Over ASUU Strike

KanyiDaily recalls that ASUU had embarked on a warning strike since February 14, over the failure of the federal government to meet its demands.

Amid the strike, the government and the union have held a series of meetings, but no agreement has been reached by both sides on ending the strike.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kalu said they need to stop playing with the future of Nigerian youths, stressing that the incessant strikes by lecturers could lead to poor quality of graduates.

He also asked the federal government to do everything in its power to meet ASUU demands so that students who have been at home for over five months would go back to school.

The statement reads, “Incessant strikes disrupt the academic calendar, encourage brain drain and contribute significantly to the poor quality of graduates in the country, with far-reaching implications for national development.

“The federal government should urgently take all necessary measures to open a realistic negotiation with ASUU to stop the strike and implement the signed agreements in the interest of our students, their parents, the education sector and the country. We must stop playing with the future of our youths”.

KanyiDaily recalls that a former senator representing Kaduna central, Shehu Sani had said that the money spent on politics in Nigeria can easily meet the demands of ASUU.
